Hummingbird in the house

Today, unlike last week, the temperature was so mild I had the sliding door to the deck open so the dog could go out there and enjoy the air.

Our kitchen and living room have floor-to-ceiling windows. I heard a frantic buzzing sound and came into the kitchen to see a hummingbird inside, flying against the glass trying to get outside.

We've had birds in the house before, but this is the first time it was a hummingbird, and it was a little frightening - so intense was his struggle I was afraid he'd hurt himself. I flapped a dishtowel at him to move him back toward the door, but he overshot it and went into the living room, again dashing his little beak against the glass.

Finally I picked up a blanket from the couch and enveloped him in it, and released him after I carried it out the door. Fly away, little guy.

Good move, I wouldn't have thought of that.

Ahh, nature.

We have many of them in the summer, but never in the house! I love the little things. I also love your view...just can't imagine it, it is so flat where we are.

I'm so glad you were able to free him. Poor little guy.
