Storm of the Century - another one

Once again, the Los Angeles television anchorpeople are going all out for this week's Top Story - It's Raining.

Unlike last time, we really have some precipitation. It started raining last night, and has gone on steady ever since.

There are wisps of cloud and fog hiding the other side of the canyon. During a brief lull I went down to get some laundry out of the dryer, and checked out the storm drains around the house. So far so good.

There's a landscaping construction project up the street above our house, and this is the runoff that's going down into the creek beside our house.

We've never had a problem with this creek in all the years we've lived here. Even the worst of the El Nino years, when our basement flooded, it was not from this creek overflowing, but from a different problem. This year is supposed to be a wet winter. I'm crossing my fingers.

How's everyone else? Are you staying dry and warm today?

  1. Cincinnati is expecting a "Wintry Mix" tonight - meaning that all the local weathercasters rush in to work and report frantically, every hour on the hour, until it becomes apparent that there will be no appreciable snow and/or ice.

Alternatively, we have been known to get 14" of snow when the aforesaid WC's were looking the other way.

For now, jb (that's The Man I Love) and I are relaxing in front of a fire, seen over the cozy glow of our laptops (what's wrong with this picture...)

  2. Hi, Briget - I went to high school in Cincinnati. I don't recall getting much snow when we lived there, maybe once or twice.

Ha! funny about the laptops. We're a little that way too!

what part of town are you in?

  5. I'm snuggling in here. Although a few days of rain with small children is quite scary to think about. I'm thinking indoor playground tomorrow or the day after...

  6. It is raining here today. But, the temperatures are supposed to be unseasonably warm this week.

I wonder what we will have Christmas week.

  7. Not dry and not warm but so far no flooding. Where we live is riddled with creeks leading out to the SF Bay but they are deep and so far not too full. I do believe we have snow at 500 feet however. That is pretty darn close!!

  8. Hi back, g! I grew up in Mariemont, moved to Hyde Park when I was 8 and have lived there ever since. I'm about a block from HP Square, on one of the little side streets. I went to one of the "posh" private girls schools, it's now part of Seven Hills. I ended up teaching at Seven Hills for 23 years - this is SUCH a small town, really.

How about you? Where did you go to High School? I'm at least 10 years older than you, maybe more (I'm 56), so we probably never crossed paths, but you never know...
