A small gift


A friend visiting from the Pacific Northwest brought a little gift. Wild chanterelle mushrooms, gathered from the Olympic Peninsula. There's only a small handful of them - perhaps 2 dozen small 'shrooms.

What would you do with them?

  1. Lots of butter a small ammount of garlic, some cream, a beautifiul plate, some fingers of good bread toasted..a simple, delightful treat!

  3. Haven't seen chanterelles for years! If you were lucky, they grew wild in our woods, but not for many years now.

  6. Mmm...I love mushrooms. I've never have wild ones, but I would probably saute' them and use them on a steak. I rarely eat beef, but I would want to enjoy the flavor of the mushrooms on their own.

    All I know about these mushrooms comes from David Guterson's book called Our Lady of the Forest. The young woman in that tale combed the forests near Forks, WA for these rare treats and sold them to local restaurants.
