July 4th romp

We spent the 4th of July evening at our friends' place in Malibu, sitting on their hilltop with a view of the Southern California Coast, watching the seaside fireworks displays stretching from Point Dume down to the Palos Verde Peninsula.

Here's the view - the barge floating off-shore is where the fireworks shoot from. This is a private fireworks show, given by some wealthy Malibu resident - name unknown - living on the beach. But each year a permit for the display is pulled, so we know it is going to happen. Our friends' place on the hill is a perfect viewpoint.

We gathered at tables on the lawn. Picnics were encouraged; potluck was welcome. There was a grill for hot dogs and a griddle for warming tortillas to make burritos. Inside the house, desserts awaited - here's a picture!

The weather was cool this year - we were happy for the shelter of the wall and the fireplace where a warming fire burned.

We brought Jack, who had a wonderful time. Here he is, renewing his friendship with Franny, our friends' dog.

Everybody has fun on the holiday!

  1. Looks like you all had a wonderful time - including the dogs!

    And that view....!

Wish we had something to celebrate like that in the UK, that everyone got together for!

  2. I was out here in Virginia, with the family's dogs.

I wish we needed a fire to keep warm, it's supposed to hit 100 today.

Jack and Franny look very cute together.

  3. I was relieved when the sun went down and gave us a break from our near-100 degree temps! So wonderful that Jack enjoyed the event, too, and I spy peach pie! :)
