This is an electrical substation at the corner of West Jones Street and North West Street in Raleigh, North Carolina, lit up eerily at night with bright blue lights.Beside it, on Jones Street, is a red brick building now housing a brew pub. Built in 1910, this was once the powerhouse of the Raleigh Electric Company, which soon merged with other power companies to form Carolina Power & Light. Like many early electrical facilities it was built to support a network of electric streetcar system. The station is located right next to the railroad tracks, convenient for loading the coal that fired its boilers to drive its steam turbines.

Love the blue! At first, I thought I was looking at a stage for a rock concert.

That's really neat: I've never seen a substation lit up quite like that, before. Around these parts, white seems to be the chosen color. There must be a neat reason for the blue. Very, very cool!
