I admit it, I over-reached.
I went to work today. I lasted about 5 hours.
My surgical incision is still tender. I think maybe sitting at a desk for hours, hands poised over a keyboard, puts some kind of strain on your "core" muscles - which is right where my incision is located.
In any case, I began to feel very tired after a few hours. It also didn't help that there was nothing going on at work - it was all routine boring stuff - reading and sending emails, answering phone calls - nothing urgent, no real WORK to get immersed in. Perhaps convalescence gives you a low tolerance for nonsense.
Thankfully, my boss, who is both compassionate and intuitive, called me out when I didn't want to admit how I felt. "You look tired," she said. "Why don't you go home?"
I'm not sure what I'll do tomorrow. There is an all-staff monthly meeting I should attend....but then on the other hand, nothing ever happens at those. There are some business things I have to take care of this week, but nothing is urgent. I have sick leave hours in the bank, so I can easily take the time off.
I think I'm talking myself into staying home tomorrow.
Photos are from the Farmers' Market in Pacific Palisades on Sunday. Why is it that a one hour visit enjoying these sights give me strength, but a couple of hours of regular work exhaust me?
Take it easy and let your body recover. Sometimes I think sitting at a desk and being moderately bored is more taxing than digging ditches.
ReplyDeleteI love your new header photo, BTW!
Please, take it easy! I'm praying for a fast recovery for you, but you gotta do your part too. Especially if you have the sick days and can afford it. Sit back, relax, read a good book. (I know how frustrating feeling like you're not able is, but is better than a longer recovery)

ReplyDeleteFresh flowers, cherries, and peaches versus work?
It is a mystery!
;)
Take care of yourself. Look at the flowers, eat some cherries, read a book. "All staff monthly meeting"? pffftt!
ReplyDeleteTake it easy! Convalescence from surgery like that can't be hurried. ASnd sitting over a keyboard is tiring to any muscle, let alone the core muscles!
ReplyDeleteThose are such wonderfully colourful photos! Wish our Farmers' Markets were like that. The ones I've been to are all boring sausages and sickly cakes!!
Rest, relax and eat. Good food will help you heal. Work will always be there. Now is the time to take care of yourself. I think I sound like the mother hen that I am.
ReplyDeleteI'm not certain how I found your blog, but I've become very interested in what you're going through. I had surgery similar to yours about five years ago, so I feel a connection.
ReplyDelete"Perhaps convalescence gives you a low tolerance for nonsense."
In my experience, no truer words have been said. Amazingly, even now after I'm all healed I feel the same way. I think that the part of me that the surgeon removed was the "tolerates fools with a smile" part!
It's the best thing you can do for yourself :-) Your body needs the rest.
ReplyDeleteSomeone will fill you in on the meeting topics later. You need some "me" time now.
ReplyDeleteRest and recover. Rest and recover.
ReplyDeleteOver and over and over again. Best wishes for a full recovery!
I'd say that after that particular surgery, you are at a low tolerance level for BS. ;)
