This is a print called "Pink Barbee" by artist Lori Michelon. It's about 5" x 7" and came framed in a nice birch frame.
It's similar to the many pieces - over 500 - of original artwork offered at the California State University at Long Beach's Art Department Holiday Art Sale.
Works by art students and faculty are offered for sale, starting this Sunday, December 7 through Thursday, December 11, at the CSULB Student Art Gallery on campus. For more information, check the College of the Arts Website. Proceeds from the sale go to support art student travel scholarships.
I first learned about this sale several years ago. I bought some fantastic pieces of pottery and ceramics - and the prices were amazing.
I got the "Pink Barbee" print and another print by the same artist, for less than $15.00 each.
I got this larger bowl, big enough to serve salad, for a little more - I forget how much, but it wasn't over $15.00.
Another year, I bought a beautiful botanical watercolor by a painter named Emily Quest.
The sale showcases works by up and coming young artists, and by established faculty. You never know what you might find. Something you buy today could be valued in years to come.
And - best of all - you're supporting young artists. What could be more rewarding than that? If you're in Southern California - go check it out!
Have to admit "Pink Barbie" wouldn't have been my first choice, but I wouldn't have been able to resist some of that pottery. Good buy. Happy Pink Saturday.

ReplyDeleteWhat a nice post and a lovely way to raise money, I wouldn't be able to pass up on the pottery either. Happy PS!
ReplyDeleteI love buying art like you did. We have several water colors we bought several years ago by an artist friend who was just starting out. I don't know if they're worth anything (money-wise), but I look at them and still love em and I guess that's what it's all about!
ReplyDeleteHappy Pink Sat!! Dana
I just read about your Doves that you saw the day you started your blog. I grew up watching doves every spring build a nest in the crook of a tree just outside my bedroom window. I have a story about that too that I think is pretty fantastic. Thanks for bringing that memory back to me.
ReplyDeleteHugs and Happy PS.
