After summer travels - some exciting, some mundane - I've returned to Los Angeles. Following our last excursion, [The Man I Love] took a detour to visit nearby family, but since I have exhausted my vacation bank, I have to come back to work.
So I'm here on my own for a week. No husband. No kid (he's in England). No dogs (yet). I'm back at work, but somehow, when you've only yourself to answer to, the day seems less structured. I can eat what I want, whenever I want. I can go where a whim takes me. I can watch whatever I want on TV. I can wake up in the middle of the night and turn on the light to read in bed.
I really should make the most of this, shouldn't I? So I need your suggestions. What would you do, if you were on your own?
On the occasions when LBeau has to travel for work, I really look forward to a day and an evening by myself. But I pretty much do what I always do--read and surf blogs.
ReplyDeleteCheri beat me to it. I would totally stay in the house in my jammies all day, only dashing out to get the paper in the morning and the mail in the afternoon.
ReplyDeleteOf course, this is more fun if you've laid in some excellent provisions the day before.
ReplyDeleteRent a bunch of sappy romantic comedies, sad love stories, and british period films. Oh, and I would be cooking pork chops on sauerkraut one evening, clams the next, shrimp the night after that. All foods my kids hold their nose and complain for hours about how much they hate the smell.
ReplyDeleteThis made me think. Maybe we need to promote a "you're on your own like a single person week" for we smug marrieds. My hubby virtually never travels. It is kind of refreshing to think outside the box of "wonder what he wants for dinner tonight." Because sometimes? All I want is popcorn and steamed spinach.
I love that freedom.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm... chick flicks, teary romance novels, MY music at my choice of volume, nude sunbathing (can't do that with kids around), girls night at my place with plenty of wine.
ReplyDeleteWow, that was fun to think about!
Oh definitely PJ's - or comfy sweats! And I would read, read, read! Or maybe do a pet project I'd been wanting to do for ages, and be able to leave all the stuff out all over the place and not have to clear it up!
ReplyDeleteAnd good easy meals - pop into the microwave - joy - no cooking for a while!
I would get up early, take a cup of coffee to our sunroom, and sit and listen to the quiet.
ReplyDeleteThey I would take a shower, put on a nightshirt, and read to my hearts content.
I would toast me a bagel, and top it with lox. Yum!
I would visit some blogs, read some more, and cut some roses to place around the house.
Then I would phone the place that goes to a restaurant of your choice, picks up the meal you ordered, and delivers it to your front door. I would order a grilled salmon salad, and pour myself some sauvignon blanc.
Then I would read some more.
Ah!!! I might have to force myself to eat a big, fat, juicy peach, too.
G, my computer problems are limiting me. Could you email me at mrs.ggggggggggggggg@gmail.com (15 g's)
ReplyDeleteI just have a couple of questions. Thanks. HG
