Wildflowers on Mother's Day

This is Phacelia grandiflora, the large-flowered phacelia.

There are several species of Phacelia that grow here in the Santa Monica Mountains, but this one is the showiest of all.

This year, a big stand of them is growing on the south side of a slope bordering the main road from our neighborhood down to the boulevard.

I noticed them in the last couple of years, maybe a few plants. But this year there is a huge mass of them. Perhaps it's the rain we've had.

They're just in time for Mother's Day.

When we lived in Spokane, there were iris growing wild that bloomed in time for Mother's Day. I love it when nature provides the flowers.
