Solar eclipse

We interrupt the previous post to bring you a hot breaking news story.

Something has taken a bite out of the sun.

We made a camera obscura with a pin and two pieces of paper.

The sun is getting even smaller.

It was certainly clear in the pinhole camera image.  But then I saw it a different way.

I walked out into the yard and looked at the side of the house.

The sun was filtered through the leaves of the trees.

It was like eclipse art.

Hundred of little images of the crescent of the sun.

Jack thinks it's pretty cool, he's not worried.

I love those shots of the sun filtered through the trees - it would never have occurred to me the trees would have act like the pinhole in the paper. Awesome, all those little crescents on the side of your house.

We didn't get to see it here in Illinois, but I was lucky enough to see the same kind of partial eclipse years ago. We had those same shadows, and they were SO cool!

We had a full eclipse here in the late 80's (I think!) I remember all the kiddos at school using their pinholes to look at it (I did too) and then walking the track and realizing that the birds were singing their sleepy songs and getting ready to bed down - they thought it was twilight!
