I just received an email addressed to myself and a woman colleague my age, with the salutation "Hi, girls."
This is in a business context - the sender is a woman younger than we are, part of a non-profit charity, but she is also a lawyer by profession.
We had met previously in the day to discuss matters of public safety connected to a business endeavor of hers. It was the first time she had met the two of us.
"Girls?" How odd. What say you?

odd indeed; in my workplace it is "ladies" which also sets my teeth on edge..what about just hi? or dear x and y or no salutation at all? girlz maybe with tongue firmly in cheek!!!
Doesn't seem appropriate in a business context.

Not appropriate but if she's younger than you most everything is casual.
It sets me on edge to be called a guy.
I remember using "dear sir or madam."
As a funeral director I have to address groups of all different sizes, politely and effectively. "Ladies and gentlemen" works best for me. "You all" - not so good. "Family members" - awkward but it works. I, too, dislike "guys".
It is odd in a business context.
Is she regressing to a second adolescence?
Not appropriate for business but I suppose we should all be thankful every time we get something that is written in real words and not text shorthand.
Welcome to the age of the Millennials. Where everybody is your "friend", (on Facebook, of course).
It wouldn't bother me at all. I'm so sick of PC nonsense. Maybe she's from the Midwest where people are still (somewhat) normal.
