Picky eater

We rescued Jack from the pound, but just because a person has humble origins, it doesn't mean he's not a discerning individual when it comes to taste.

Although Jack greedily snarfs up his regular doggy dinner without hesitation, for some reason, Jack is choosy about dog treats.

He doesn't much care for Milk Bones. We held out a Milk Bone to him, and he held it loosely in his mouth and let it fall to the floor.

He prefers the squishy, smelly treats. The freeze-dried liver bits. The bright fake-red colored Purina items that are supposed to look like steak. Or bacon. Sometimes we slip him little scraps of chicken or beef from our dinner plates.

When we're training him, we amp up the treat-ness by carrying a little ziplock bag with slices of turkey hot-dogs. All the better to reward him when he follows the commands.

But....if there aren't any squishy treats, or delicious pepperoni slices, or slivers of chicken...

He might reconsider a Milk Bone. If you don't mind.

You got some more?

This is cute. Our dog only likes Milkbones and she prefers the green ones. I know they are colorblind, but they must smell different. She won't eat any other dog treats. Now, ham or chicken scraps and she's one happy beagle.

Interesting - my dog will also only eat the green Milk Bones!

He is very picky about what he eats. He has progressively become more and more picky. He used to only eat Innova EVO - which I had to drive 15 miles to buy. Then he would only eat chicken and rice that I made myself. Now, in his 13th year, he will only eat freshly cooked hamburger. And, even then, he will ONLY eat it off a "human" plate - no dog dish will do.
However, he loves dog treats. His favorites are Pupperonis and Beggin' Strips, as well as the aforementioned green Milk Bones. He would live on them if we would allow it.

I'm the same way.

Entrees & so on, I'm international/cosmopolitan, but when it comes to dessert, other than certain French pastries I want awful, sugar-soaked all-American junk, & nothing but!

He seems like a true carnivore.
Good boy!

IT'S BACONNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!

Sorry - I love that commercial.

Jack is one beautiful dog - good for you for rescuing him and giving him a fresh start.

Gotta tellya - my bff has two dogs. An older corgi and a young, spotlight-hogging king cavalier spaniel. She, of course (my friend) gives them their chew-bone treats at the same time. The corgi goes straight to work on hers. Meanwhile, The Princess drops hers and watches. See, the corgi has stronger jaws. When the treat is chewed exactly to Miss Princess' preference, she sets up an Unholy Fuss until she gets it.

And then the corgi goes patiently to work on the other, abandoned treat.

I still can't make up my mind whether this is a good result for her, or a ripoff...

Picky eater? My cocker spaniel (English sort!) wouldn't know the meaning of the word! he will greedily gobble up anything that remotely resembles food. Out on a walk, his nose is on the ground all the time, sniffing out interesting things! Play with balls? You are joking! Food is what he is after. All the time!

Your dog looks really cute, the markings are so clear.
