Trash or treasure?

While driving around Hollywood, on a nice street north of Franklin Avenue with lovely homes, I saw this house. Large, rambling, probably 1920s or 1930s vintage, sort of Spanish/Colonial, with an arched porte-cochere over a driveway leading to a back garage. Unloved, very shabby and poorly maintained, but with nice lines.

See that sleeping porch on the north and south sides, with the awnings? See the plaster decoration, the pretty balcony over the entry? The arched porte-cochere is trashed, as though a truck drove through it.

What kind of shape do you suppose the roof is in? The plumbing? the wiring?

What do you think when you see a sad but beautiful house like this? Bargain or money-pit? Trash or treasure?

Such beautiful details and so sad to see it in disrepair.
If money was in plentiful supply, it would be a very worthwhile money-pit! I'm a sucker for old houses, especially ones with intriguing architectural details.

It looks like a treasure in your picture, Aunt Snow.

I love it. But I think it would likely be both a money pit and a treasure.
