Chickens don't stand still for photos |
The other day, I was walking Jack and our neighbor passed me while driving his kids to school. "There's something I want to show you," he said, "something funny about the chickens."
This morning he met me in my front yard and told the story. Rosa, our housekeeper, had come over one day last week to knock on his door. "The chicken is out!" she said. He came over to shoo it back over the fence, but then took a look around.
Why was the chicken coming over to our yard so much?
Here's the answer. She's nesting in our front planter.
We have our own nest. There are five eggs there this morning.
Should I harvest them now or wait for an even half-dozen?

She is working pretty hard to hide those eggs!
What a gift, though I'm certain that's not her intention. ;-) There's nothing like good fresh eggs.
And the neighbors are wondering, "How come she's not laying?"

Oh God - that's too cute - she must be thinking 'maybe if I lay them here they'll have a chance of hatching' - clever hen!

“Hey Doc, my wife thinks she’s a chicken. She runs around the house all day, clucking like a chicken.”
“Well, bring her in, I’ll take a look.”
“I can’t do that.”
“Why not?”
“We need the eggs.”
True story.
If you let them hatch, you'll quickly have your own supply of egg layers.
Oooh, I like Claudia's idea! :)
That's just too funny!
