She works hard for the money

I've been feeling harried and uninspired this fall, and you can probably tell, as I'm posting less frequently.

After a summer at the beach - both exhilarating because of its beauty, and frustrating because of various organizational problems - I was sent back to my home office.

It was a nice homecoming. Familiar co-workers and customers. Consistency. Supportive leadership. Before being dispatched to the beach, I'd been assigned a creative job that I was really looking forward to. The summer assignment postponed that, and I was anticipating getting back on track.

Only....

A colleague, whose duties include financial analysis and oversight, is taking a medical leave of absence. I'm being trained to cover her duties while she's gone - which coincides exactly with our organization's annual budget process.

And...

The beach is still in disarray. They need more help.

So I'm spending half a week at the beach and half a week learning about financial reconciliation, spreadsheets, balance sheets and five-year-forecasting.

There's a reason they call it "work."

Cause it's not fun.

What do you do when you need inspiration and an uplift from the daily grind?

Oy! I'm thinking some nice daily walks are in your future, for sanity's sake.

I'll certainly understand if you don't have much time to blog for the next few months.

I'm in the midst of the busy season- it's the biggest fundraising month for us, and the hours are crazy. I gain inspiration from my awesome co-workers- the camaraderie helps us get through this grind.

Hobbies!!! I'm lucky to have many hobbies, but my current favorite involves yarn. I just pick up my knitting or crochet work and the rest of the world disappears!

I feel your pain, Aunt Snow.

I wonder if I could make a living taking pictures of butterflies?

New job??

Say no to being trained for that financial job and go back to your old one?

Have a hissy fit and take a medical break??

Chuck it all in and packback across the world?
