Three Things to check out - August 4 - 10

Here are three great things to check out for this week

1) Santa Monica Civic Auditorium's 50th Birthday Party! Featuring a free outdoor, bring-your-own-lawn-chair showing of the classic surf film "The Endless Summer." Go to the city's website for more info.

2) Robert Rauschenberg's Lotus series, at the Greenfield Sacks Gallery at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica, runs through August 16th. Lotuses seem to be coming up a lot, lately, in this blog. Might as well keep up the trend.

3) A couple of years ago I bought a silver bracelet from Taxco, Mexico. And I fell in love with Mexican silver jewelry. On Sunday, August 10th, the Fowler Museum opens an exhibit of the work of one of the master Taxco silversmiths, Antonio Pineda. It's called "Silver Seduction" - and that pretty much describes how I feel about his jewelry. If you haven't been to the Fowler Museum, you're in for a treat. This wonderful little museum on the UCLA campus presents fantastic exhibits. And it has one of the best gift shops in the city!
