Thematic Photographic - Edible

For the next week, Carmi's Thematic Photographic will be exploring the theme of...Edible

There's edible, and then there's EDIBLE.

Chapulines are a delicacy in Oaxaca, Mexico. They are fried crisp and seasoned with chile and lime. Click on the link to find out what they are. These were on sale at a stall in the Mercadito in East Los Angeles.

I've never had them. Have you?

Would you try them if offered?

And for Lulda - I guess this fits into my Mexican theme....!

Ha, I was just going to say, hey, I'll try anything once, but I missed the grasshopper part. Oh, what the hell, I would try anything once!

I'm not altogether sure they qualify as edible... but I know at least one of my kids would try them!
I might...if you ply me with a couple of margaritas...

LOVE the bluebonnets in your header!

I studied Spanish in Oaxaca, and yes, it is true, they eat chapulines there. And what's more, they are not considered exotic at all, but rather a snack food. I remember the ladies in the market - each one had a tray mounded with chapulines, a little bowl that served as a measuring cup, and a supply of small plastic bags.

I have tried them and they are quite tasty. Crunchy. Low in fat, high in protein. I was more concerned about eating them because they weren't vegetarian than I was about consuming a bug. To me, consuming a chicken seems far worse!
